About RMTs and credentials
About Mirek →What is a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT)?
A Registered Massage Therapist is a regulated healthcare professional in Ontario who has completed a recognized massage therapy education program, passed the College’s certification examinations, and is registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. RMTs assess and treat the soft tissues and joints to help relieve pain and tension.
What is the difference between an RMT and a massage therapist?
In Ontario they are the same protected title: only people registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario may call themselves a Massage Therapist or RMT. Choosing a registered therapist means your treatment meets the College’s education, ethics and safety standards, and that Mirek can provide an official RMT receipt to submit to your extended health plan.
Is RMT the highest level of massage therapist in Ontario?
Ontario does not use a tiered "levels" system. Registered Massage Therapist is the regulated professional designation, which means the practitioner has met the College’s education, examination and registration requirements. Beyond that, RMTs can take additional training in specific techniques, as Mirek has. RMT is the qualification required to practise massage therapy in Ontario.
What is the difference between the CMTO and the RMTAO?
The College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) is the regulator: registration is mandatory, and it sets and enforces the standards that protect the public. The Registered Massage Therapists’ Association of Ontario (RMTAO) is a separate voluntary professional association. What matters for your treatment and your insurance receipt is CMTO registration, which Mirek holds.
How can I check Mirek’s CMTO registration?
You can look up any Registered Massage Therapist on the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario public register, the "Find an RMT" tool on the CMTO website. Search by name to confirm a therapist is registered and in good standing. Mirek’s record lists him as registered since 1996 and currently in good standing.
What languages does Mirek speak?
Mirek speaks English and Polish, so your appointment can be in either language. He has practised in the Greater Toronto Area for over 25 years and brings his mobile massage therapy directly to your home in Oakville, Mississauga, Burlington or Milton.
Mobile massage and visits
Service areas →What is a mobile massage?
Mobile massage means the therapist travels to you instead of you visiting a clinic. Mirek Werykowicz, RMT brings a portable table and supplies to your home across Oakville, Mississauga, Burlington and Milton. You get registered massage therapy in a familiar, convenient space, with the same care as a clinic visit. Booking is by phone or text.
What should I get ready for a home visit?
Just a small, quiet space, roughly the size of a bedroom or living-room area, at a comfortable temperature, with any pets settled in another room. Soft, relaxing music is welcome if you like it. Mirek brings the professional portable table, fresh sheets, towels and oil; the only thing you provide is a pillow.
How do you keep everything clean between clients?
Mirek wipes down the entire table and uses fresh, clean sheets and a clean face cover for every client. Anything that touches you is laundered or replaced between appointments, so each session starts clean and hygienic.
What oil do you use, and do you have an unscented option?
Mirek uses good-quality massage oil, often lightly scented with lavender or eucalyptus. If you have an allergy or sensitivity, or simply prefer no scent, let him know and he will use an unscented oil instead.
Where do you travel to: homes, condos, offices or hotels?
Mirek comes to homes, condos, offices and hotels across Oakville, Mississauga, Burlington and Milton. Wherever you are, he sets up the portable table in a small, quiet space and packs everything away afterward. Travel within 25 km is included; beyond that a flat $10 travel fee applies.
How soon will you reply when I call or text to book?
Mirek usually replies to a call or text within about two hours. Booking is by phone or text only, which fits the mobile schedule, so there is no online form. Same-day appointments are sometimes available, and you can also book a few months ahead.
Can I book a same-day or evening massage?
Often, yes. Because Mirek manages his own schedule, same-day appointments are sometimes available, including evenings on most weekdays. If you realize after work that you would like a massage, send a text or call: he usually replies within about two hours and will fit you in when he can. He comes to you, so there is no clinic to travel to afterward.
What happens at the first visit?
Your first visit starts with a short, confidential medical-history form so Mirek understands your health and goals, along with an assessment at no extra charge. During the massage you stay comfortably covered with a sheet or towel, and only the area being worked on is uncovered.
Can you treat older clients or people with limited mobility?
Yes. Mirek's massage therapy can be adapted for older clients and for people who find it harder to get on and off the table. Let him know when you book so he can plan the setup and approach to keep you comfortable.
Do you treat clients under 18?
Yes. Mirek treats minors with the informed consent of a parent or legal guardian, and a parent or legal guardian needs to be present during the treatment.
Do I take my clothes off for a Swedish massage?
You undress to your comfort level in private, then lie under a sheet or towel. You stay covered the whole time, and Mirek only uncovers the area he is working on. Many people undress fully, but it is entirely your choice and your comfort comes first.
The different types of massage
All services →What are the main types of massage therapy?
There is no fixed number of types. Most styles fall into relaxation-focused work, like Swedish, and treatment-focused work aimed at specific muscle tension. Mirek Werykowicz, RMT offers deep tissue, therapeutic, sports, trigger point, myofascial release, Swedish relaxation and lymphatic drainage. He can suggest what may suit your needs during your session.
What is deep tissue massage and what does it do?
Deep tissue massage applies firm, focused pressure to the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It is commonly used to help relieve chronic tension, ease tight or overworked muscles, and support better movement. The pressure is firmer than a relaxation massage and is adjusted to stay comfortable for you.
What does therapeutic massage mean?
Therapeutic massage is massage delivered with a treatment goal in mind, such as helping relieve a specific area of pain or tension, rather than general pampering. A Registered Massage Therapist assesses what you need and chooses techniques to match, which may include deep tissue, trigger point, or myofascial work.
What is sports massage?
Sports massage is massage focused on the muscles and movements involved in your activity. It uses firmer, targeted techniques to support recovery, ease training-related tightness, and help maintain mobility. It suits active adults and athletes, and does not require you to be a competitive athlete to benefit.
What is a trigger point and what is trigger point therapy?
A trigger point is a tight, tender spot in a muscle that can be sore to press and can refer discomfort to nearby areas. Trigger point therapy applies focused, sustained pressure to help that spot release, usually as part of a wider therapeutic massage rather than on its own.
What is myofascial release and what does it do?
Myofascial release uses slow, sustained pressure and gentle stretch on the fascia, the connective tissue around your muscles. It aims to help ease restriction in that tissue, which can support easier movement and reduced tightness. The pace is slower and more sustained than a standard massage stroke.
What is a Swedish massage and what does it include?
Swedish massage is the classic relaxation massage. It uses smooth, flowing strokes, kneading and light to moderate pressure across the body to help you relax and ease everyday tension. It is gentler and broader than deep tissue, with comfort and calm as the main goals.
What is lymphatic drainage massage and what is it good for?
Lymphatic drainage massage is a very gentle, rhythmic, light-pressure technique that follows the direction of lymph flow. People choose it for a soothing, relaxing session and to support the body’s natural lymphatic movement. It is much lighter than deep tissue or therapeutic massage.
Benefits and what to expect
What is massage therapy?
Massage therapy is hands-on work with the body's soft tissues, muscles, tendons and connective tissue, to help relieve tension and support relaxation, comfort and recovery. In Ontario it is a regulated health profession. Mirek Werykowicz, RMT (CMTO Ontario) provides it, with an official receipt you can submit for insurance reimbursement.
How often is it good to get a massage?
It depends on your goals, activity level and how your body feels. Some people come weekly or biweekly when easing ongoing muscle tension, while others book monthly for general relaxation and maintenance. There is no single right answer. Mirek Werykowicz, RMT can help you find a comfortable rhythm, and your physician can advise on any health concerns.
What are the main benefits of massage therapy?
Massage therapy may help relieve muscle tension and ease everyday aches and stiffness. Many people find it supports relaxation, comfort, better-feeling movement, and a sense of calm. As a Registered Massage Therapist, Mirek Werykowicz, RMT (CMTO Ontario) tailors each mobile session to how your body feels that day.
Does massage help with stress or lower cortisol?
Many people feel calmer and more relaxed after a massage, and it can ease the physical tension that stress brings. Research on hormones like cortisol is mixed and not conclusive, so Mirek won't overpromise. What he can honestly offer is a calming, supportive session that helps you unwind.
Does massage help with blood circulation?
Massage can create a temporary warming, relaxing sensation in the area being worked on, and many people enjoy how it feels. Claims about lasting circulation changes are often overstated, so Mirek keeps it honest. If you have a circulation or vascular concern, please check with your physician before booking.
Does massage release toxins from your body?
No. The idea that a massage clears toxins from your body is a myth, and Mirek Werykowicz, RMT won't claim otherwise. Your liver and kidneys do that job. What you actually feel afterward is eased muscle tension and relaxation. Drinking water and resting simply helps you feel comfortable.
Are there areas of the body a massage therapist will not work on?
Yes. You stay properly draped throughout, and only the area being worked on is uncovered. Mirek never works on private or sensitive areas, and he checks in about comfort and consent first. You can decline any technique or region at any time, no explanation needed.
What are red flags to watch out for during a massage?
A professional session means clear consent, proper draping, and respect for your boundaries. Red flags include any touching of private areas, pressure to undress beyond your comfort, or ignoring your requests. With Mirek Werykowicz, RMT (CMTO Ontario), you can stop or adjust anything at any moment.
Massage and specific health conditions
General information only. Massage therapy supports comfort, relaxation and muscle tension; it is not a treatment for any medical condition. Always check with your physician first.
Is it good to get a massage when you have back pain, and what is the worst thing to do?
Massage may help ease muscle tension and bring comfort when you have back pain, though it is not a fix for the underlying cause. The worst thing is usually prolonged bed rest or ignoring worsening symptoms. Check with your physician first, especially for new or severe pain, then Mirek can gently work the area.
What type of massage may help with neuropathy?
Neuropathy is nerve-related and best managed by your physician. Massage does not treat it, but gentle Swedish or therapeutic work may support relaxation and ease surrounding muscle tension some people find uncomfortable. Sensation can be altered with neuropathy, so always clear massage with your doctor first. Mirek will adjust pressure carefully.
Should someone with fibromyalgia get a massage?
Many people with fibromyalgia find gentle massage relaxing and helpful for easing muscle tension, though it does not treat the condition itself. Sensitivity varies, so light pressure is often best. Please check with your physician first, then let Mirek know your comfort level so he can adapt each session to you.
Can people with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome get a massage?
Ehlers-Danlos syndrome affects connective tissue and joint stability, so massage must be approached with care and only after your physician agrees. Gentle techniques may support relaxation and ease muscle tension, but firm pressure and stretching are usually avoided. Let Mirek know about your condition so he can keep the session safe and comfortable.
Can massage help with cervical radiculopathy?
Cervical radiculopathy involves an irritated nerve in the neck and needs assessment by your physician. Massage does not treat it, but gentle therapeutic work may support relaxation and ease tension in nearby muscles. Some positions can aggravate symptoms, so please get medical clearance first, then Mirek will work cautiously around the area.
Can massage help the vagus nerve?
Slow, gentle massage can feel calming and may support overall relaxation, which some people associate with the body's rest response. That said, massage is not a treatment for the vagus nerve or any nerve condition. If you have specific health concerns, please speak with your physician. Mirek can keep sessions relaxed and unhurried.
Pricing and tipping
Pricing →How much does a massage cost in Ontario?
A 60-minute registered massage therapy session in the Greater Toronto Area generally runs about $110 to $160. Mirek Werykowicz, RMT, charges $113 for 60 minutes with HST included, and travels to you across the west GTA with travel within 25 km included at no extra cost.
Are your prices HST included?
Yes. Every price shown includes 13% HST. Massage therapy by a Registered Massage Therapist in Ontario is currently taxable, so the figure you see is the full amount you pay: $62.15 for 30 minutes, $113 for 60 minutes, and $163.85 for 90 minutes. There is nothing added at the end.
How do I pay, and do you take cards?
Payment is by cash or e-transfer, settled at the end of your appointment. Mirek does not process credit or debit cards. He always confirms the fee, including the flat $10 travel charge beyond 25 km if it applies, when you book by phone or text, so the total is clear before he arrives.
Is there a travel fee for mobile massage?
Travel within 25 km is included, so most appointments in Oakville, Mississauga, Burlington and Milton have no travel charge. Beyond 25 km, a flat $10 travel fee applies, and Mirek confirms it with you when you book so there are no surprises.
How affordable is your mobile massage, and what is included in the price?
Mirek keeps his pricing competitive and all-inclusive. As an independent Registered Massage Therapist and owner-operator who travels to you, he carries lower overhead than a commercial studio, and that is reflected in clear rates: $62.15 for 30 minutes, $113 for 60 minutes and $163.85 for 90 minutes. HST and travel within 25 km are already in the price, so the figure you are quoted is the figure you pay, and you still receive an official RMT receipt for your insurance.
Do you tip a registered massage therapist?
Tipping is not expected for registered massage therapy. As a regulated healthcare service it is closer to seeing a physiotherapist or chiropractor than visiting a spa, and the professional fee covers your session. If you would like to show appreciation, a referral or a kind word is always welcome.
Is the first-visit assessment included?
Yes. Your first visit includes an assessment at no extra charge. Before any hands-on work, Mirek reviews your goals, any problem areas, and your health history, then tailors the session to you. You pay the standard rate for the massage time, with no separate assessment fee.
Do you offer gift certificates or packages?
Gift certificates are available and make a thoughtful gift of registered massage therapy. One person can buy a session and another can come and use it; just call or text to arrange one. Mirek does not currently sell multi-session packages, so you simply book and pay per appointment at the rates above.
Does the booked time include setup, or is it all hands-on massage?
The minutes you book are hands-on massage time. When you choose 60 minutes, that is 60 minutes of treatment on the table. Setting up, a brief chat about your goals and packing away are extra and are not taken out of your session, so you get the full massage time you paid for.
What is your cancellation policy?
Mirek asks for at least 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule, since each appointment is a reserved travel and time slot. A first missed appointment is not charged; repeated no-shows may be. If you are unwell there is no charge, just let him know and reschedule. You can change or cancel any booking by phone or text.
Will I get a receipt for my insurance?
Yes. After your appointment Mirek provides an official RMT receipt showing his name, CMTO registration number and the fee paid, which you can submit to your extended health plan for possible reimbursement. This is a receipt for reimbursement, not direct billing.
How much should I tip, and is tipping expected for a longer or higher-priced session?
Tipping is not expected with Mirek Werykowicz, RMT. Registered massage therapy is a regulated healthcare service, much like physiotherapy, so there is no standard tip on a $113 or $163.85 session. Mirek's posted rates are the full price. A tip is entirely your choice and never required.
How much does a sports massage cost?
Sports massage is priced the same as Mirek's other registered massage therapy sessions, by length of time. A 30-minute session is $62.15, 60 minutes is $113, and 90 minutes is $163.85, all with HST included. Each session comes with an official RMT receipt you can submit to your health plan for possible reimbursement.
Insurance and receipts
Insurance →Does OHIP cover massage therapy?
No. OHIP, Ontario’s public health plan, does not cover registered massage therapy. Coverage usually comes from a private or extended health benefit plan through your employer or an individual policy, or from a Health Spending Account. Mirek provides an official RMT receipt so you can claim through whichever plan you have.
What kind of massage is covered by insurance?
Coverage depends on who provides the massage, not the technique. To be eligible, plans that include massage therapy generally require that the treatment is provided by a Registered Massage Therapist and that the receipt shows their CMTO registration number. Deep tissue, Swedish, therapeutic and the other styles Mirek offers all qualify the same way.
Do you offer direct billing?
No. Mirek works on a reimbursement basis: you pay at the appointment by cash or e-transfer, and he gives you an official RMT receipt right away. You then submit that receipt to your insurer or Health Spending Account, and they reimburse you according to your plan.
Do I need a doctor’s note for massage therapy?
It depends on your plan. Many extended health plans reimburse RMT massage without any referral, but some, often older group policies, ask for a doctor’s note first. It is worth checking your benefits booklet or calling your insurer before your appointment so you know what they need.
How much will my insurance pay for massage?
That varies a lot by plan. Many plans set an annual maximum for massage therapy, often somewhere between $300 and $1,000, and may cover a percentage of each visit or share the limit with other paramedical services. Check your plan for the exact amount, any per-visit cap, and any deductible.
Can I use a Health Spending Account (HSA) for massage?
Usually, yes. Health Spending Accounts and similar employer accounts generally treat registered massage therapy as an eligible expense, claimed with your official RMT receipt. They can be useful for costs beyond your regular plan’s annual maximum. Confirm the details with your account administrator.
Will my receipt be accepted by my insurer?
Mirek’s receipt is a standard official RMT receipt showing his name, CMTO registration number, the date, the amount paid and his HST number, which is what insurers and Health Spending Accounts typically look for. If your plan needs anything specific added, just let him know.
Services Mirek does not offer
Massage services Mirek offers →Do you offer cupping therapy?
No, Mirek Werykowicz, RMT does not currently offer cupping. Cupping uses suction cups placed on the skin to create pulling pressure on the tissue. If you are looking for relief from muscle tension, Mirek offers hands-on options like deep tissue, trigger point and myofascial release massage in your home.
Do you offer reflexology?
No, Mirek does not currently offer reflexology. Reflexology applies pressure to specific points on the feet, hands or ears based on the idea that they map to other parts of the body. Mirek offers full-body, hands-on massage such as Swedish, therapeutic and deep tissue at your home instead.
Do you offer Thai massage?
No, Mirek does not currently offer Thai massage. Thai massage combines assisted stretching and rhythmic pressure, usually on a floor mat with the client clothed. Mirek works on a portable table and offers options like therapeutic, sports and Swedish massage, which can also include some gentle stretching.
Do you offer prenatal (pregnancy) or hot stone massage?
No, Mirek does not currently offer prenatal or hot stone massage. Prenatal massage is adapted for pregnancy, and hot stone uses heated stones during the session. Mirek offers other hands-on options like Swedish, deep tissue and myofascial release. If you are pregnant, please check with your physician first.
Doing techniques yourself
Can I do myofascial release on myself?
Gentle self-care with hands or a foam roller is common, but it is easy to push too hard or work the wrong area. For anything painful or persistent, see your physician first. Myofascial-type work is better assessed by a professional. Mirek Werykowicz, RMT, can focus on tight areas during a mobile session.
Can I do lymphatic drainage massage on myself?
It is best left to a trained professional, since technique and pressure matter and self-attempts may not help. If you have swelling or any medical concern, check with your physician first, as some conditions need care. Mirek Werykowicz, RMT, offers gentle lymphatic drainage massage in his mobile practice if it suits you.
How do I release a psoas trigger point myself?
The psoas sits deep in the abdomen, so self-pressing there is not advisable and can be uncomfortable or unsafe. For ongoing hip or low-back discomfort, see your physician first. This area is better assessed and worked on by a professional. Mirek Werykowicz, RMT, can address it with trigger point work in a session.
Still have a question?
Call or text Mirek and he will be glad to help. Same-day appointments are sometimes available.
