Deep tissue massage

Deep tissue massage uses firm, slow, focused pressure to reach the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Mirek Werykowicz, RMT, provides it as a mobile service across Oakville, Mississauga, Burlington and Milton.

Deep tissue massage works the deeper muscle layers and fascia with sustained pressure and slower strokes. It is a treatment-focused style often chosen for long-standing tightness, overworked muscles, and the stiffness that builds from desk work or training.

Best for

  • Chronic muscle tension and tightness
  • Overworked muscles from training or physical work
  • Stiffness from prolonged sitting and desk posture
  • General recovery after intense activity

Good to know

  • If you mainly want to unwind, a Swedish or relaxation massage is gentler.
  • For a recent injury, inflammation, or a medical condition, check with your physician first.

What to expect

Mirek sets up a professional portable table in your home, discusses your goals and any tender areas, then works at a firm but tolerable pressure. Good communication keeps the pressure right for you throughout the session.

Insurance receipt

As a Registered Massage Therapist (CMTO Ontario), Mirek provides an official RMT receipt after your session that you can submit to your extended health plan for possible reimbursement. This is a receipt for reimbursement, not direct billing.

Questions about deep tissue massage

What is deep tissue massage and what does it do?

Deep tissue massage applies firm, focused pressure to the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It is commonly used to help relieve chronic tension, ease tight or overworked muscles, and support better movement. The pressure is firmer than a relaxation massage and is adjusted to stay comfortable for you.

Is deep tissue massage painful?

It should not be painful. Deep tissue work can feel intense as the deeper muscle layers release, but it stays within a "good discomfort" range you control. Mirek checks in on pressure throughout, and you should always tell him to ease off. Sharp or unbearable pain is never the goal.

How often should I get a deep tissue massage?

It depends on your goals and how your body responds. For ongoing tension many people book every two to four weeks, while others come as needed after heavy training or stressful stretches. Mirek can suggest a rhythm at your first visit based on what you want to work on.

Does deep tissue massage release toxins?

No. The popular idea that massage clears "toxins" from the body is a myth. Deep tissue massage helps relieve muscle tension and supports circulation and relaxation, but it does not remove toxins from the body. Drinking water after a session is sensible general self-care.

What is the difference between deep tissue and a regular massage?

A regular or Swedish massage uses lighter, flowing strokes mainly for relaxation. Deep tissue massage uses firmer, slower pressure aimed at the deeper muscle layers and specific areas of tension. Deep tissue is more treatment-focused; relaxation massage is gentler and broader.
